Population First's UNFPA-Laadli National Media Awards for Gender Sensitivity 2007 will finally culminate in a grand, high-profile awards ceremony in Delhi's FICCI Auditorum on May 15, 2008 at 6:30 pm.

The winners have been chosen from the best from each region, in each category namely: Print Media, Electronic Media, Advertising and Films.

There are 13 awardees who have been chosen by a very erudite jury panel comprising leading media, advertising and film personalities.

The Laadli Media Awards is a part of the media advocacy of the Laadli campaign- A girl child campaign that seeks to create awareness about the falling sex ratio and gender discrimination. It was launched by Population First, a Mumbai-based NGO working on health and population issues. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is supporting Population First to take the awards to a pan-India level. Delhi-based iCONGO is the Collaborating Agency to coordinate the efforts.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit is the Chief Guest while UNFPA's Goodwill Ambasador is the Special Guest. Laadli's Spokesperson Suneeta Rao would also present at the function.

Mallika Sarabhai will perform Sita's Daughters on the occasion and an extract from Lushin Dubey's Bitter Chocolate will be staged.

  • Region-wise Awards were held in West, South, East and North between November 2007 to April 2008
  • Ms. Dolly Thakore, media and theatre personality is the National Coordinator of the Awards

Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan 

Languages: English, Gujarati, Hindi and Marathi

Southern:

Collaborating agency: The Catalyst Trust, Chennai

Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu

Languages: English, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu

Date: March 28, 2008 at The Music Academy, Chennai

Eastern:

Collaborating agency: Innereye Communications, Kolkata

Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mehalaya, Mizoram, Orissa, West Bengal, Sikkim and Tripura

Languages: Assamese, Bengali, Hindi and Oriya

Date: April 17, 2008 at the G.D. Birla Sabhaghar, Kolkata

Northern:

Collaborating agency: iCONGO (Indian Confederation of NGOs)

Chandigarh, Chattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh
