Delhi welcomed its UNFPA-Laadli National Media Awardees on May 15 at The FICCI Auditorium at 6:30 pm. The Awards are for media professionals across India who address women's and gender issues in their films, theatre, advertising, print and TV media.

Population First's UNFPA-Laadli National Media Awards for Gender Sensitivity 2007 culminated in a grand, high-profile awards ceremony in Delhi's FICCI Auditorum on May 15, 2008 at 6:30 pm.

The winners were the best from each region- West, South, East and North, in each category namely: Print Media, Electronic Media, Advertising and Films.

There are 13 awardees who were chosen by a very erudite jury panel comprising some of India's leading media, advertising and film personalities.

The Laadli Media Awards is a part of the media advocacy of the Laadli campaign- A girl child campaign that seeks to create awareness about the falling sex ratio and gender discrimination. It was launched by Population First, a Mumbai-based NGO working on health and population issues. The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is supporting Population First to take the awards to a pan-India level. Delhi-based iCONGO is the Collaborating Agency to coordinate the efforts.

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit was the Chief Guest while UNFPA's Goodwill Ambasador was the Special Guest at the function. Laadli's Spokesperson Suneeta Rao was also present at the function.

Mallika Sarabhai and her troupe of musicians performed Sita's Daughters on the occasion and an extract from Lushin Dubey's Bitter Chocolate was staged.

Eastern:

Languages: Assamese, Bengali, Hindi and Oriya

Northern:
