Population First organised a panel discussion with experts working on the issue of sex selection like social activists, civic health officials and the medical fraternity on the topic 'Who will save the girl child- 14 years after the PCPNDT Act'. It was held on September 24, 2008 which is celebrated as SAARC International Girl Child Day, at the Mini Theatre, Ravindra Natya Mandir, Prabhadevi, Mumbai. It was held with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) under the Laadli Media Advocacy component.
The panel discussion aimed at analysing the efforts of the various stakeholder groups in the effective implementation of the Pre-Conception Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, which bans the practice of female foeticide, or sex selection.
