Population First submits Gender Manifesto for the 2009 Parliamentary Elections

Population First had developed a manifesto for the political parties in 2004. It is an attempt to articulate the demands of the social activists to bring in greater political commitments to gender issues. Since manifestos represent the vision and the road map of the political parties with regard to the social issues, elections provide an ideal opportunity to open up a dialogue with the political parties.       

 

An analysis of the election manifestos of the various political parties in 2004 shows that:

 

1.    Women find mention only under “Women’s Empowerment” section.
