Read about how Population First's intervention in Thane district has actually helped impove the living conditions of the people.

On the last day of micro-planning in the Gram Sabha, the villagers of Vachkole were asked to prioritise the village level problems. The villagers unanimously said that the absentee village school teacher was the most important problem. They said that the teacher was irresponsible, had no fixed hours and just wandered around the village. The villagers said they had complained many times but seeing that no action had been taken, expected Population First (PF) to intervene.

The PF representatives and micro-planning resource persons said that the villagers would themselves have to identify a viable solution to the problem, but assured them of any assistance or support.

When we met the villagers the next time, they had decided to take matters into their own hands — they said that they would have the school teacher changed.
